With the release of MILF Obsession v1.9, DanGames has already sped up the franchise so much that a new review after v1.4 is in order.
How hot do you like your coffee? Prepare to have your beans served hot in this barista-and-milf fantasy. Don't let the generic name of the game fool you thinking this is an average game. Developer DanGames is putting a lot of style into this game.
STORY
You’re Bruce, a young guy working the coffee bar for a latina mother named Carmen. As time passes, life gets weirder and Bruce starts fantasizing about older women in his life. These women are equally receptive to his quirky, introverted flirts and along the way, Bruce builds several interesting 'entanglements' with these women. This isn't a game where you focus on MILFs, but they do make up most of the screentime.
MILF Obsession is written with a vision. Responses are elaborate, and while being a total male fantasy, characters respond within the world they live in. As the chapters progress, the humor gets increasingly stronger and dirtier. This helps players bond with Bruce's chaotic life. That life also gets sillier, from helping your delusional friends to certain appreciation dynamics with both your neighbours and others. Not to mention Carmen, who slowly warms up to the grasp of young Bruce.
The game starts off very generic, focusing on Bruce idolizing his boss Carmen. As the worldbuilding outside the coffee bar grows, the game gains more personality and showcases all kinds of characters. It's called 'MILF Obsession', but really this game is about moms being cougars, naughty housewives and sex workers all together. It's a nice palet of characters, who never overstay their welcome. There's a silly characteristic to the game that sometimes takes away from the storywriting, but the game often tries to make you smile.
Main character Bruce starts off as a tool. As a 22-year old white cis male, going from stuttering incel to bold sex toy in two chapters is too much of a stretch to be believable. From chapter 2 on however, Dangames finds him a better voice and leans more into the 'horny young man next door' character. Yes, it's a trope, but it's better than disconnecting responses and gives the game a certain charm. His corruption arc isn't that strong as he borderline switches from insecure to dominantly manipulative, but the scenes work as standalone moments.
While the writing can be theatrical and silly, there's good worldbuilding and characters respond uniquely to their situation. You can easily tell female characters apart on how they respond alone. Logan is one of the outstanding male characters, firstly leaning into a trope but opening up if you play your slaps right. It's becoming quite a world, but one that DanGames seems to have control over. As the dev has quite a fast release schedule, the update quality has dropped a little - with quirks like Bruce describing a quick fuck with a young woman as 'the best of his life' while having a MILF obsession. It's nothing troubling, but it could do with better quality control. Misspelled names, story arcs that hiccup in transition
MILF Obsession is fun. Storywise we've barely scratched the surface on the obsession part, but you can tell Bruce has some identity issues that play up during chapter 4 and 5. Whether Dangames can successfully tell Bruce's story of corruption remains to be seen, but at the very least it's a fun ride to experience.
PRESENTATION
Developer Dangames chose a sterile, almost wax-like look for the characters. It could do with a bit more vibrance and liveliness, but the graphics work to sell their world. There's a big emphasis on cinematic bokeh and depth of field. The game features many renders and even animations sprinkled in between when things get naughty or characters blink.
Stylistically, the camera angles start out like a sitcom, but are well executed. During the game, the quality increases as we see the developer experimenting more with closeups and certain pervy shots. The choice for all capitalization on the reading text is a hard sell. Yes, you can read it better on a small screen, but you're losing emphasis in conversation as well. Being able to pick between fonts would be a welcome addition.
In gameplay, we'll talk about interactive elements that the game offers. The UI elements can feel a bit clunky, but definitely work and are clear enough to be usable. The popup elements for status changes or activating secret scenes are more than welcome, and help make this a premium experience. Another great choice are the dialogue choices on the right side of the screen, in addition to the icon design of the tap games. Dangames put a lot of thought into the interaction design and it works well for the game's presentation.
From Chapter 3 on, you're into sexiness territory within the game. The game starts off timid, but definitely holds fun for Bruce if you play your cards right. Sexy animations, audio and even the ability to control speed at times. MILF Obsession is a silly, but fun experience. The worldbuilding is good and while the sex doesn't always make sense, it's begging to be played while looking great. Most of the times, the intimate scenes are fairly short because there are many women who end up in Bruce's path.
The presentation works for this game, partly because of the interactions and the engaging story. Things may be over the top at times and jump around from scene to scene, but in terms of visuals MILF Obsession stays firmly rooted in its origins of fast fun.
GAMEPLAY
Most of MILF Obsession plays like a standard novel. But sporadically, you can make a choice that affects the scene you're playing and potentially others as well, eventually influencing the relationships of the people around you. After each chapter, a recap screen shows you events that happened and choices made in your playthrough. The choices don't have the biggest of impacts, they rather impact the scene you're playing in. If those choices trickle down is something we can't tell as of yet.
In a dialog, conversation options show up on the side of the screen. Following these choices often opens up a character, allowing for more compassion during scenes. There's often a choice between staying safe or pushing your luck, the latter often rewarding with secret scenes. These scenes are loaded with extras, which definitely boost the quality of the game. Often when you see a dialog choice that asks you to pick, you know there's a scene to be unlocked.
Bruce also owns a phone in which he has character bios for the main characters, a replay function for intimate scenes and the ability to change his wallpaper. Incidentally, the story will allow him to receive chats and photos. It's simple tap interactions, but it works to tell the story. You can always access the phone during gameplay, while it's really most important in the earlier chapters.
That same tap mechanic works whenever Bruce has to tap, smack, hit, pick up or knock things. You'll see a touch icon that asks for specific user input before continuing. It's novelty, but a simple way to engage the player into the story. Picking things up or slapping the coffee machine is just an extra layer of gameplay that keep players immersed in the world.
MILF Obsession works well for a visual novel. There's info to explore, choices to make and things to slap. Make sure you keep an eye out for those secret scenes and don't be afraid to push characters a little.
OVERALL
While the obsession in MILF Obsession may seem more like a deliberate preference, the game paints silly scenes which allow its characters to open up and shine. Bruce had a tough start, but is part of the joke by Chapter 3. The game got better over chapters and has enough unique story bits to keep players interested in new shenanigans. Now how many crazy things can happen in a coffee bar?
