The second installment of the ASOC series is here, and it's a lot like the first game was. Silly, cracking jokes and chaotic storytelling from a pirate. But has anything changed since the first episode?
STORY
Last time, I namedropped Captain Jack Swallow as a curious addition to the game as its storyteller. This time, Swallow is back and doesn't hold back against copyright laws. Fair warning - this game sticks together through pr0n logic and prides itself on it as well. So it's not that weird to see a pirate pop up at the beginning and the ending of your story.
Austin Hughc*ck is the successful CEO and founder of BioGrow, a company that apparently is very good at growing things. But I bet nothing grows as fast as his appetite for ladies. Enter Monique, an activist of color who made news headlines protesting in front of Austin's hotel. Eventually, the two meet and a tale of change starts.
Look, I made that sound wholesome and interesting, but this game revolves around bimbofication. So you can probably guess what stands to happen later in the story. Although the developer does take time out to write out internal thoughts and frequently slaps humor in between scenes, it's all very ‘teenager fun' level of humor. It's not a bad experience, just a little bland sometimes. If you're up for that, you can play and enjoy this game.
There’s a big chance the story will show how Austin enlarges his already substantial harem of women and while totally standard, it's fine for the concept. The game usually shoots itself in the foot with overtelling, but the premise is fun and silly. For now, only the start of the story is told, but it looks to be quite a silly ride.
PRESENTATION
ASOC: Be The Change looks pretty good when it wants to. While the game does look like those 90's CGI cutscenes, it’s an okay look if you are empathetic to it. It fit my expectations for the game, as most of this is about the silly humor the game uses.
If the inclusion of a quite familiar pirate isn't enough to throw you off your feet, the absurd storytelling will. Average women boost into total blow-up dolls, waiting to service Austin at his whim. If that tickles your fancy, you should give this a go.
Although the developer has tried his hand at animation and some of it actually succeeds, I personally didn’t find the animations to be of much help when trying to immerse myself into the world. They are often too ambitious for what the dev can accomplish, albeit they can be fun at times.
Sound does play a bigger role, as a few of the scenes are accompanied by absurd sound effects and fitting theme music. It’s one of the games strong suits, and should definitely exploited more.
For the 30 minutes of game that’s currently there, there’s enough to see to get a brief look at Austin’s world. I do hope it vastly expands into new locations, more women and an overarching story. It would improve the quality of the presentation greatly.
GAMEPLAY
Kinetic VN, so there's no choice gameplay as of yet.
OVERALL
While the story of the first game was centered around family, this one is all about transforming women into a happy, sexual company cult. If you like absurd comedy and don't mind the graphics being a little rough on the edges sometimes, this could be a sweet snack for you to enjoy.
