Up until v0.4, Elysium has been a bag of multiple stories. On one hand, you have the human world with Aunt Lucy and Alice. On the other hand, you have the Three Kingdoms of Lyra and Vanya who need your help. Noah is trying to tend to them both. How wiill that work?

Still smiling from looking the cute store girl in the eyes, Noah is immediately confronted with Alice being assaulted by the man from the parking garage. Turns out, that man is her father who demands a payment. Things escalate as Noah eventually gets involved. Elysium isn't trying to be 'believeable' anymore, but leans in on the 'deus ex machina' magic by conjuring contracts and eventually magic weaponry.

Shortly after the rekindle, Noah is called to the other world. Someone went missing and a council is hosted to discuss the disappearance. Again, Noah decides to get involved with the idea of finding out what happened. The update skips over important story bits and that's something we've seen more often in Elysium. I would have loved to see more of the mission and less of the 'real world' drama. This universe clearly shines best when it's in fantasy mode.

A new race is discovered, one who comes with a dire warning. There are multiple magical worlds and since other worlds are being destroyed, the races are summoned to take over the Three Kingdoms. This has been hinted at before in v0.2, but now we actually become face-to-face with another race fighting for their survival. It's the most interesting part of the story, but still feels like only scratching the surface where it could have gone deeper.

Elysium is in a weird place. On one hand, the graphics have upgraded to the point where the game is beautiful. The writing and text are grammatically sound and often in line with the scene, but really lack the power of a strong, rich backstory to draw from. If anything, I would really like for developer Xtudio to flesh out the Three Kingdoms, where they stand in the magical realm and what the coming of a dark presence like we have seen with the goblins in v0.3 could mean for both them and the earth realm. The game looks good, but it's hard to describe what kind of experience you're going to have for now.
