STORY
Thomas Miller comes back to college for a new year as he meets Abraham, one of his new classmates. She - Abby is a woman - isn’t well-versed in how things work in the big city, so Thomas decides to help her out and get going on campus. Meanwhile, Thomas has his own issues as he too is being bullied by the Dean’s son, Chaz. Thomas has the upper hand though, as Chaz’s girlfriend Kayla is really interested in Thomas and flirts with him. Thomas decides to stick it to every woman and Chaz as he decides to take matters into his own hands.
The story is full of tropes and honestly, Thomas feels a little tropy. His interactions with Miss Saunders - a different teacher - are nice and the way he cares for both Abraham and Kayla is sweet. Chaz and his mom, Dean Nelson, feel like a total trope however and it’s a missed chance to tell a true taboo story.
While the game does a great job of showing intimate scenes, the writing during them is severely sub-par. The “Oh Gods! MHM! Yes! Baby!” calls are on repeat to the point where it actually damages the atmosphere that is built up during the regular scenes. If you can look past that, GH:CD is a short, but quite an enjoyable story with an unsatisfying ending.
PRESENTATION
The game looks good. As a kinetic VN, the novel fonts seems a little standard - but it all works. The used 3D models look a mix between doll and realistic. Kayla and Abraham look great - with Abraham sporting a Scooby-Doo ‘Velma’ look minus the red skirt. The game has a lot of renders and little render reuse, all the small minor details in poses are rendered. There are MC POV’s, overhead shots and the intimate scenes look good. There are animated scenes without sounds, which work well enough for me.
While most of the characters look a bit exaggerated, in this universe it works for the most part. Big hips, big busts and big behinds. Abraham is quite conservative and it shows in her whole style. Kayla is edgy and that too is reflected in the way she looks. Thomas the MC is fairly attractive, which makes the whole story more believable. An final extra thought on presentation is the way friendly intimacy is shown in this game. Cuddles, hugs and embraces really help sell the idea of forming a bond.
GAMEPLAY
It’s a kinetic VN. No gameplay aside from next and previous slide.
OVERALL
Grandma’s House: College Days is fun, but feels incomplete. Not because things are inherently broken story wise or because characters are unrealistic, but because the simple premise of the game isn’t fulfilled. The story ends on a group cuddle, with no mention of how the story would continue. It gives off the vibe as if the story will continue somewhere else mid-scene without actually mentioning it. That said, if you don’t mind the open ending - you’re in for a bit of college fun.
