STORY
“Conquer the hottest girl in my near vicinity.” That’s what the boss tells you when he’s dangling a promotion in front of your face and tells you he needs alpha males on the job. Your character, Chris, naturally goes towards his hot co-worker Megg - but she’s already on to him before he can start with her. The two come up with a plan to give the boss a ride for his life, somewhat cucking him in the process as well.
The story is outlandish and defies realism, but that’s also part of the charm. The character continuity isn’t so hot, especially around the family members of the boss. They look cute enough, so in the end all your character wants to do is impress them enough to plow through them. It’s a thin storyline full of tropes, but it works in it’s suspense of disbelief. Aside from some of the dialog being sub-par.
Also it feels like Mary at the art gallery was totally shoehorned in the game, but ended up having the second best scene. It’s mishaps like those that make the game seem unbalanced at times. Nevertheless, it’s a short ride and it’s not terribly bad. The end depends on what route you took, although there are only two choices - promotion or no promotion.
PRESENTATION
The game looks pretty good. The initial scenes in the office are off-putting due to bad lighting, but the rest of the game cleans up nicely. You will visit several locations and see multiple characters around town. The models look good, albeit some of them look a little static or doll-like.
Intimate scenes work pretty well, and for the most part - once you get to them, they’re satisfactory. The last one before the promotion is a bit anticlimactic visually, but that is easily countered by the promotion you are offered.
GAMEPLAY
This game employs a mix of puzzles and dialog. The first part is a quiz where you have to answer five random questions right with three chances to mess up. After you get that right, there’s a touching game where you have to touch someone in the right area to get them up to speed. Besides that, it’s the regular VN choices you make as you move from subject to subject.
While the change in gameplay is fun, I don’t necessarily believe it was always implemented in a fun way. For example, at the art gallery you are asked specific art questions about Vincent van Gogh and Vermeer. That’s not something most people know - so you’ll have to google it in order to answer it correctly. Suppose you went to multiple rounds of that and then having to rub your target down - it could become tiresome for a player. That said, the new game mechanics are welcome and can easily be updated in a next project.
OVERALL
MTF - The Promotion is a silly game that is more of a boys game than anything. In it’s silliness it tells a crazy story which might be a bit exemplary for this developer, who is otherwise working on Forbidden Memories, a game that’s also featured within this one briefly.
