Before you ask what Futanari is - let me update you on the Wikipedia definition: "the term has come to be used to describe a commonly pornographic genre of eroge, manga, and anime, which includes characters that show primary sexual characteristics from both females and males." Make sure to have proper expectations at the door and you will not be disappointed.
Story wise the game is average to good. Despite the appalling intro (which I think the dev should rework to match the other chapters) the story slowly forms into a tale of becoming. Everything is pretty lighthearted and humorous despite the content being of angels and demons. Basically, the thing is one big fuckfest where your MC, Thalna, gets to play around in. It’s clever to write the sexual acts into the story, but found myself drowned in dicks, sexual deviants and fluids overwhelmingly eventually. It’s nothing deep however, unless you count the fucking.
After the first chapter the story picks up to allow our MC to grow and learn her world. This is a long game now, so quite a few developments happen. Yet they all don’t seem to matter much. This is all too apparent near the end chapters, where the climax of story is overthrown by the multiple climaxing of.. you get me. It’s never out of character, but it gets to the point where it’s ridiculous and actually a bit off-putting for me. The tone of voice breaks character sometimes and it hurts the suspense of disbelief, but overall the writer did a good job of containing the story. There are definitely story elements that suddenly disappear off the dev’s map and while frustrating, it never gets in harm’s way of the story.
Side characters are surprisingly good. The two main side characters help form the story while the other cast is sometimes stereotypical. I do like how some of the girls (is that how you refer to them?) are shy, some are extroverted - but most are pretty recessive to your MC. If not downright obsessed with her. MC’s character shines most when she’s met with other dominant energy - so that’s where you’ll get the best moments story wise.
PRESENTATION
Graphics are good. There’s a lot happening and the developer always takes time to show you the money shot. Could nit-pick about things being too dark sometimes or being too obsessed with the Futa-theme. But really, if that’s what this game is about you should embrace it. I like the way the dev frames scenes and would definitely check out other projects based on this game. Maybe it could use more of the sensitive moments it already has (cuddling, caressing) - but overall this is the highlight of the game. No animations, but that didn’t bother me at all. (Apparently the regular PC version does have some animations)
As far as models go, there is variation. Some characters have human skin colors, others have demon colors. Most of the body types are the same - I remember encountering a thick woman of color with MC and it was refreshing, since most girls kinda look similar in body type.
There are however so many sex scenes in the game that there really should have been more variety around them. It’s not uncommon to see two people fucking in the same way three times, which decreases the magic moment of the first time. This game has an insane amount of assets - and all of those could have been used to change the experience. In the dev’s defense, I will say that there’s just so much content in the game you can’t really help getting repetitive.
GAMEPLAY
Wanted to make an extra note that there are tap-minigames involved and they’re actually quite clever intertwined with the story, although they don’t always clearly state what needs to happen. This can be frustrating, but I worked it out in the end. Might be better to have some helpful text.
Within the game is a clear emphasis on either being bad or good and while I like my MC good, this game screams for a bad MC. Not that the good MC isn’t dirty, she gets her way as well. It’s definitely bordering ‘horny teen fantasy’ and while I don’t always like it, the dialogue supports that the developer chose it consciously. It’s silly mostly, sometimes over the top - but mostly very sexually suggestive.
OVERALL
Inner Growth isn’t finished as of yet, but it seems the ending could go in multiple ways. It’s not really clear to me what the best end choice for my MC would be and that might just be deliberate. We’ll just have to wait and see, but my feeling is that the end reveal could potentially fall flat in favor for more sexual deviance.
That said, this game is definitely worth the effort (even though the game got a bit long). You’ll have to be open to the whole supernatural and futanari thing, but this is actually a great thing built over years. I can’t wait to see the dev work on other stories.
