Most of us remember what it was like being locked in during a quarantine. In Confined with Goddesses, a virus breaks out while a young man visits his favorite teacher at home. All inhabitants of the house are ordered to home-stay or be executed when they go outside. Luckily, you are quarantined with beautiful women who have needs. Being confined doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

STORY
Storywise, CwG is silly and over the top, leaning into anime stereotypes like Tsundere and MILF fantasies. While the writing is definitely passable to good, certain response styles remind of anime storytelling in a way that makes characters feel too stereotypical instead of defining characteristics. Every woman in the game does have her distinct personality however, and to reach the end all are equally important - even the women you didn’t get along with earlier.

While the bond between schoolboy Ero and teacher Berry is the main storyline, characters like Sarena and Isabella offer different flavors of expressing love. You will have to experience them all in order to finish, but by the end you’ll have a favorite or two. This is a male power fantasy, where the man isn’t always in power - but the women simply make their lives about him. If that’s your sort of thing, this game is for you.

CwG won’t give you anything out of the ordinary in terms of story. It often repeats various similar actions for each woman instead of trying something different, but the game offers enough dynamic for the different personalities to stand out on the surface. In the end, all the women secretly love you and couldn’t bare not to be in your life. No spoilers there, you can feel it coming the moment you set foot into the house.

There are some unique scenes that raise an eyebrow or a chuckle for how silly it is, and that’s how CwG should be consumed. A hot game about a young man who gets the fantasy of his life with stereotypes of women who are quite literally from a cartoon world.

PRESENTATION
The 2D cartoon style is something you will either like or hate - but as a primarily 3D focused player, I enjoyed the style far more than initially expected. Visuals do start off a little rough as the first chapters contain almost a sketch-like quality - but as soon as you get to the house, things look tight.

CwG is anime-inspired and it shows in its fluid animations. Not only are the visuals complimented with exaggerated facial expressions, but Ero also has ‘horse cock disease’ and all kinds of extra visual effects happen during intimate scenes. There are a lot of hot scenes for each character, but the variety is a little scarce. This is in part due to stereotypical and sometimes tropy writing, which keeps characters from becoming truly memorable. Visually, all the women except for Zoe look attractive. Trust me, you’ll know what I mean when you play this.

Being a sandbox game, you spend a lot of time in the house overview UI. It looks nice and you’re shown where the next unlock for a character is on the house map. It all works fairly well, even though you will still be looking for where to get the next scenes.

This game is a bit of a niche experience, but if you like big busts, anime tropes, a simp protagonist and a rigid system where interactions are steadily unlocked, this is for you.

GAMEPLAY
CwG is a sandbox VN. You’ll start off with a story and continue in the house as a time-based sandbox. You have four moments in a day and each woman is on a different spot in the house every time. It’s up to you to figure out which woman needs your attention where and how you can move the story forward. Luckily, you do have help from icons that tell you where to go.

In order to advance in the game, Ero has to upgrade various stats by researching on the computer and earn money in order to buy specific items needed to progress with the women. Yes, it’s a grind - but you can find ways to max things out in just under half an hour. Just make sure you meet the women in between advancing levels or you might miss out on content. Go back to visited places frequently to look for new opportunities and you will be rewarded handsomely by handsome women.

The game would greatly benefit from a clear help system, but it seems these are reserved for particular versions of the game. Overall, the gameplay is a little tedious - but it’s a fun puzzle to figure out what woman to trigger where. Since you can’t really go wrong anywhere, you’re free to experiment as you please.

While I do believe the sandbox allows you to work on multiple women simultaneously, there are only a handful of added benefits from having this over regular storytelling. The story is more of a puzzle now, which you will have to try your best to uncover.

OVERALL
Confined with Goddesses is fun if you’re into fantastical, anime-like stories. It’s a total male fantasy, but finds a way to keep things lighthearted. This might have been the nicest quarantine I have ever been in, even if I’ll only remember one or two characters from our stay. The art style eventually hooked me and I hope the developer’s next project, Divine Heel, will feature better fleshed out character stories. Eroniverse's games contain everything else to be memorable within the AVN landscape.
